Sexual Abuse Intervention Network

A community-based multidisciplinary network specially designed to assist a jurisdiction in addressing the needs of juvenile sex offenders, victims and their families.

The Problem
  • During 1996 in Sarasota County, there were 146 reported case of child on child sexual abuse.
  • Many of the reported cases never made it through the court system.
  • Many more case were never reported.
  • Research has clearly shown that victims of child abuse frequently go on to become abusers themselves.
  • Treatment of both victims and abusers can greatly reduce the repetition of this cycle of abuse.

The Response

S.A.I.N. is a statewide effort to network agencies that work with juveniles on every level, from the parent, classroom teacher, after school care provider to the court system and police. Joining together and educating all involved is the most effective means of prevention.

Identification of juvenile sex offenders and their victims, and the provision of counseling to both are the primary goals of S.A.I.N. Guiding both victim and offender through the court system in a timely and consistent manner can help prevent future abuse.

If you or your agency are involved with youth and wish to join our efforts to reduce child sexual abuse, please contact Assistant State Attorney Rod Haynes at (941) 951-5422
